RADICAL SCI-FI MANGA
This is part of my surreal, experimental manga series( ‘Retro-futurist Monsters’, ‘Studcreep, Weakest of the Mightiest’). This fantastical, experimental manga-zine is about visionary social activism. The first chapter has a surreal political art gallery, the second and third chapters are manga tales, and the fourth is a collection of radical philosophical writings.
The 1st manga, ‘The Exploding Man’ is about a future fascist society that has long outgrown peaceful activism. But this seemingly orderly society is beset by an interdimensional plague: super-intelligent, microscopic armies wage apocalyptic wars on human bodies.
The 2nd manga, ‘Apocalyptic Utopia’, is more experimental and psychedelic( for the lack of a better term)and is executed from a variety of perspectives. It symbolically depicts the transformation of a conflicted, distant world, inhabited by various gods, devils, aliens, robots, superheroes, and the like. They overcome their differences, when they realize the great damage that their constant warfare has caused, . The manga-inspired artwork is surreal and trippy, not unlike Gary Panter’s “DalTokyo’, depicting kaijus, mecha, cyborgs, fairies and the rest in a more organic, yet symmetrical style. There’s a detailed summary following the comic.
